The Estate Planning Practice Group at Perkins, Thompson, Hinckley & Keddy provides clients with estate planning and administration services, including drafting wills, trusts, powers of attorney, healthcare directives, and charitable gift instruments as well as providing estate and gift tax, family wealth and business succession planning. In addition, the Group handles probate and administration proceedings in Probate Courts, including will contests, and court proceedings concerning the construction and interpretation of wills and trusts. Estate and trust administration services provided by the Group include estate and trust accounting, representation of personal representatives and trustees, assisting creditors in handling claims against estates, advising and assisting personal representatives and trustees with respect to estate and gift taxes and estate and trust income taxes, and final settlement, distribution and closing of estates.
The skills of other practice groups, such as the Real Estate Practice Group and the Business Practice Group, are used by and integrated with the Estate Planning Practice Group to assist clients in developing an orderly succession plan for family businesses, family real estate holdings and other family wealth, including the use of family limited partnerships, trusts and family foundations. A wide variety of clients are represented, ranging from the elderly widow with fixed assets to the young couple just starting a family to the multimillion dollar estate of a business owner.
